Transforming Transitions

Would you like to facilitate person-centred planning with us?

This webpage contains information for people interested in facilitating person-centred planning with Transforming Transitions. Others will find the main public part of the Transforming Transitions website more relevant.

The Transforming Transitions project provides person-centred planning for children and young people in south and central Scotland as part of planning around school transitions. We already work with a set of freelance facilitators, and we would like to expand the number of facilitators available for us to call on.

We would like to hear from you if you are already a competent facilitator, or if you could be after receiving some training. This is an exciting opportunity to become one of very few people not just trained in person-centred planning but with experience facilitating genuine person-centred planning processes. We plan to run an intensive training course over 4 days in March or April - places on this will be limited.

Before contacting us you should note the following: We are not offering a paid position with Equity in Education - we pay facilitators for this service as and when we require it; Most facilitators are either already self-employed or have a bit of flexibility in their steady employment; Even if after training we judge you to be competent, work is available in your area, and we offer you this work, this may be sporadic and will be in small amounts (in other words you definitely won't make a living from this work on its own).

Thank you for your continuing interest.

Once you are ready to tell us more about yourself please fill in this form (also available as an rtf file), and return it to me, Robert Weetman (I'm the project coordinator), preferably by email using these contact details. Please note that there is an initial deadline for form returns of January 31st, but we would like to hear from you sooner if possible.

It is likely that you will find much of what you need to know in these notes - or on the rest of the Transforming Transitions website (use the menu at the top of this page to browse the rest of the site) - however if having read this you have remaining questions please contact me.

You may find the following documents particularly helpful - they are the main leaflets we use to explain Transforming Transitions to families:

If you want to know more about person-centred planning from the perspective of a facilitator try the following links to documents on www.capacitythinking.org.uk . Note that most of these are directed at people already trained to be facilitators or actually undertaking training, but they give an indication of the skills involved:

We pay for facilitation at an hourly rate of £20 covering both the work involved in setting up a planning process, and the process itself. You can also include expenses you incur in your invoice (note that we pay 25p per mile for mileage). Our 'terms of engagement' document can be seen here (pdf file).

We intend to run an intensive training course in March or April. This is likely to take place over 4 days, probably a Friday and Saturday on two sequential weeks. We are always interested to hear from people who are already competent facilitators of person-centred planning, but on this occasion our focus is on people who will become competent through this training.

You should note that we will ask you to demonstrate in person that your facilitation is up to the task before we offer you any work. The training will be participative - much of your learning will be through experiencing and practising the roles involved in person-centred planning. This includes experiencing being the focus of a person-centred planning session.

Note also that we will also ask you to participate in an enhanced criminal records check, and we will ask that two people provide written references for you in regard to your suitability for this work.

I'll look forward to hearing from you.
